Our lake today, as far as my eye can see, is just like yesterday, a gorgeous jewel of motionless blue beauty. It is, to me, a perfect example of the Ideal Made Real, which belongs to all of us sentient beings. The lake will stay smooth until the wind comes up and blows this ideal-made-real away. Regardless of the weather, the Ideal Life is real, it always exists. But what about the drought in California? What about global warming? What about whatever it is that takes your peace away? I’m not saying there isn’t important work to do in the world. There is! And some of it has your name or my name on it! On any given day there is upset and there are real issues of concern. In the last two days, there were several things that tried to interfere with my Ideal, my joy, my peace of God. This may have occured to you, too. I came back to my Sanskrit mantra for the day: so hum, so hum, so hum! Sometimes I use one I just made up: so what? So what? So what! Life is great, we are all beneficiaries of the gifts of life. Stay happy, keep breathing, love each other, be kind…
(And now, a word from our sponsors, just for fun: The guy who fell onto an upholstery machine is fully recovered!)
My birthdate is March 21, 1928. Today I made it to age 87. (Wow, that’s unreal; sometimes I even surprise myself!) I will not try to unveil my “top secrets” regarding longevity. Actually, I’ve never been 87 before, so what do I know? I experienced some upset recently due to my opinion about how long recovery from surgery ought to take. The particulars are not important. The important part is that appearances are always subject to change! And the changes are largely under our control, based on our attitudes and beliefs. Is the glass half-full or half-empty? When we remain confidently and positively poised in the faith OF God, the righteousness of life, the Ideal of it all, the changes that come are welcome ones! I am grateful to say that I am now operating at 100% in all areas of my life! Daily meditation and physical therapy are important for me. I am also very grateful that we are all blessed by Infinite Love and an Immutable Law. Jesus said “It is done unto you as you believe.” I affirm for you a happy, healthy and Ideal life on this, my birthday and always!
Our son, Adam was born on May second and, as an infant, his mother and I carried him to his first Asilomar. During our years attending the Ernest Holmes School of Ministry and much earlier for Gail, (during her teen years as a member and then President of the Youth of Religious Science,) we always attended the traditional Asilomar summer conference experience. This had been established by our founder Ernest Holmes back in the eary 1950s, and he was always there among us until his passing in 1960. I believe 1980 was the first time we ever saw Swami Beyondanada perform in Merrill Hall. I have been highly entertained by the Swami ever since, even though our organization’s years at Asilomar have ended. I like being entertained, as opposed to the drama and the negative downward pull that also exists. Gypsy Rose Lee sang, “Let me entertain you, let me make you smile.” I say, “Do whatever it takes to make you happy, then stay happy and keep breathing.” Love, Gil
God’s business is becoming and enjoying the manifested Universe. My business is discovering and evolving my life. Your business is your own choice. And when I start messing with that, it’s monkey business! I sometimes forget my business and neglect it as I focus on other things. I am really grateful that creating the Universe is not my concern. I don’t have to set up the Law of Attraction; I am only responsible for using it. I have found that my life works better as I make it my job to keep my attention focused on life, not death. Where life exists, hope exists! Life exists as love and there can be no opposite. Love is what propels me straight ahead, upward into more and more aliveness, and my life ascends into more and more love. The ideal is made real! I cannot allow my mind, my consciousness, my focus to stray from the onward, upward path. I cannot allow monkey business to divert my attention. I choose life and I choose love.
